Re: Yamaha DGX-660 doesn’t recognize keys

It's funny how Android, iOS, Mac OS X and Windows have all gone to promoting the "Instant On" benefit of using a sleep mode instead of real actual shutting down (and in fact the iOS and Android devices make it more difficult to power the things off). But all these machines still must be rebooted fre...

Amos, I think you will find the 1 Octave Scales extremely useful. iPad lumps all the courses in the same window as the rest. You might have to log out of the app so that it updates. I close it completely after every session. I find the iPad and the app behave better if I do. On mine I see " Rookie T...

Re: Hello from Emeryville, San Francisco Bay Area

As a long time user I have some thoughts on Numbers. 1- The numbers are great to start a lesson with. Here's why - We are learning more than reading sheet music. One of the things is to learn where to put our hands. So start the lesson with the numbers on and see where to put your hands. Just look a...

Re: Half way through Rookie Beginner - I think my reading is slow

I built up landmarks in the staves. First is the bottom line of each staff. E on Treble and G on Bass. learn those. The mnemonic helps at the start. But you have to really learn those notes on those lines. Also find them on the piano and mentally attach that key to that line. Next is the top line of...

Re: Samsung Galaxy Tab A and Yamaha YPG-235 Keyboard

It was the Playground Sessions official Android Beta app. Unfortunately because Android OS doesn't have a real standard way of doing MIDI. It has standard guidance that isn't always possible given the hardware in use. They pulled the Beta in order to get back to redevelop it and hopefully release it...

Re: Hello from Emeryville, San Francisco Bay Area

Welcome Amos! Learning something new from every practice is awesome and a great feeling. You're getting Smarter Everyday! I just finished the Rookie Bootcamp a little while back and have been working on some of the additional course material that gets unlocked. Really amazing what you realize you've...

Re: Yamaha DGX-660 doesn’t recognize keys

Try this: With the DGX-660 up and running - 1) Press the FUNCTION button 2) Use the CATEGORY buttons to find the MIDI section 3) Turn the dial to find "Keyboard Out" 4) Make sure the "Keyboard Out" is set to "ON" Normally it should default to "ON" - but maybe it got turned off a some point. Another ...

Re: 36 And thinking about starting playing piano

The YPD-S34 looks like a cool keyboard. The trick I found most useful for both hands together is to slow things down. There was a YouTube video shared on Facebook that talked about "mistakes beginners make" or something like that. One thing was not using slow, even painfully slow, tempos. So go slow...

Re: Sound through piano speakers - yay or nay?

I don't have a CLP-625, so I am not an experienced user of it. Based on what I see in the owner's manual and the online specifications, the CLP-625 does not have an AUX IN port, which is how I get the audio into my digital piano (Yamaha P-515). I did not find, though it might actually still be possi...

Re: Kawai CA98 to IPad 3

When you open Playground, you might need to tell it what device to listen to. My iPad wanted to listen to the Network Session 1. Which I don't have. Which was confusing! This was in the Settings from the bottom left of the screen. Then the "Piano" tab. You should see your Kawai in the window there. ...
