Re: How to complement Playground sessions?

I agree, a teacher is the single biggest thing you can do to complement the app. There are loads of things that it is easy to get wrong (and not realise they are wrong) if you don’t have a teacher to keep you on track. And things like dynamics and articulation that you won’t even know existed withou...

Re: Learning by reading notes not numbers

Have you guys at Playground Sessions ever thought about adding a specific reading training section? I think it would be possible to create something that is both very simple and very useful. I know what would benefit me as a beginner struggling with reading: Single random note at a time generation, ...

Re: trying not to bang on the keys

You're so right. I've also started taking piano lessons with a proper teacher that has a regular acoustic piano. The hardest thing I've found to do is play it quietly and smoothly (and teachers are REALLY keen on this!) I'd suggest having the volume up pretty loud on your digital. I had mine turned ...

Re: Learning by reading notes not numbers

But that bass clef is a connundrum. Isn’t it just! I had been using a phone app called Music Notes, and it was good, but tapping in notes on the phone screen was a bit painful. I have learnt all the mnemonics (Every Good Boy Does Fine) and so on but they are only a get out of jail method when you a...

Re: Piano teacher to support a teen needed

If the piece calls for staccato, then you'd want to play a shorter note in the interval. The start and end timing of a note is important...If you aren't aware of these ideas, a one on one teacher is a good idea. Very true, and when the left hand is doing one thing and the right hand is different it...

Re: Cant seem to get around the speed issues

If there was a fixed time interval, then users would be allowed to play less accurately at faster tempo. Only if you regard "accuracy" as a proportion of note duration. But that isn't how the human body works. Your reaction times and accuracy are fixed for your current level of skill - you don't ma...

Re: Cant seem to get around the speed issues

I don't know how "on" the beat you have to be. It seems a lot of slow songs have a good bit of wiggle room. Fast songs are a lot tighter on needing to be "right on" the beat. Yes, I’ve also noticed this. It’s as if the error tolerance is set as a percentage of note duration rather than a fixed time...

Re: Piano teacher to support a teen needed

Does anyone have an opinion on that, is having a teacher to complement a software based learning not a great idea, so the teacher can spot things that the software wouldn't (correct fingering/posture etc.)? My opinion is that a teacher is highly desirable for those exact reasons. As an adult beginn...

Re: A Written Manual for Playground Newbies?

I have to say finally seeing someone else saying that the problem they see is , the speed changes with each measure and is not consistent which makes it difficult to "ring" the hole and follow the tempo...YUCK. I dont like my focus has become trying to ring the hole of the note , regardless the tem...

Re: Frustrated by timing problems and not being able to move on in program

I turned off the immediate feedback, so the computer didn't tell me if my notes were "red." Just play the song and enjoy the fact that you are playing it. Do that a few times, turn the scoring back on, and I'll bet your scores go up. I agree completely. I’ve also come to realise that focussing on t...
