New to piano playing - need an advice for 2 handed playing practise

Hello all.

I just signed up and started to learn with the Bootcamp.
So far playing simple songs with one hand is working good.
i understood notes so far (though after this shirt time i cant read em without the finger numbers yet but learning it i hope).

i mostly played around with a midi keyboard in the past and tried to play some songs after watching tutorials.
but i never "learned" playing for real. i thought it´s time to....

BUT

as soon as i need to use both hands my brain locks up.
even the simple lessons.
i really stuck at the bootcamp rookie 38.
i just can´t get the fingers sorted in my head even at slow speed.
it´s like everything is going into a mixer and at some point i just see the numbers and cant sort em to my fingers

Any advice how i can practise this a bit better?
i tried doin the part i stuck on over and over but its gettin worse with every try.

is there anything i can do to practise this a bit more?

as a bloody beginner i find it a bit early to go into 2 handed playing.
maybe i should stick to the one handed lessons for a while?
though they are all very easy and i dunno if it would help.

i would be greatly thankful for any advice from experienced players.
i know you can´t learn this in a few days or weeks.
i am just looking for an effective way to break the wall in my head so my left hand is doing what i want

Hi Westy

As you go through Rookie camp there will be lessons unlocked. From what I've read you need to get reasonably high percentages in rookie camp, say roughly 86% plus to unlock these lessons. They appear in a separate new tab at the header and you'll know when they're unlocked as you'll receive a grand pop up notification once at that level.

Its in these lessons you'll learn the two handed technique (I'm there now) and later on the Hanon lessons.

I noticed that course too now.

doin some scales atm as starting excercises every day starting with the right and joining with the left hand after a few minutes.
i can feel its gettin easier.
once i can do this with closed eyes i start the course i think.
neet to get my brain used to all this

What I do is attempt it a few times and then stop the lesson, then look down and keeping both hands on the keyboard concentrate on one hand playing the intended notes in any nonsensical order, changing it, making patterns and sounds with it for 5 minutes or so. Then switch to the other hand and do the same. Lastly I play each hand individually once and in time with the lesson and then bring them together. I then have a few goes at that and if still brain dead do it all over again.
That and I do walk away from the keyboard if getting bogged down. I just leave everything where it is and switched on so I can simply sit back down and carry on without the switching on and stool out ceremony. Its like that all day ATM.

I'm a rookie too so in no way am I a teacher, but this definitely helps my personal mud brain moments.

Playing slowly is my technique for conquering two hands together. I go slower than the default slow speed. Then I speed up in small increments, keeping at the edge of being able to keep up with it. As I become comfortable at a given tempo, it is time to speed up again. All the way up to full tempo.

thanks for all the helpful answers.
making some (liiittle) progress but i dunno.... bootcamp 38 is very hard for me.
was able to do the lessons after it a bit.
but one day i´ll beat it

but maybe someone has a tip for me in what order i should do stuff.
i noticed i really have a hard time with sheets where the finger numbers are not on the sheet.
should i learn the notes before i continue?
or mix it up?
i dunno i think i dont make a real progress. should i learn notes for some weeks before i continue?
started the course and having a real hard time to sort everything in my head in time and finding the right keys.
i feel like i´m at primary school again

Sadly the "real" time isn´t measured when you play the lesson on repeat. MANY more attemps needed.
and that only was part 7 of the lesson.
i am really scared of what comes......

and i am not sure if i ever will be able to play this instrument.
without the finger numbers in the sheet i would be totally lost.
i know the notes and everything but no way i can sort em in the time AND play with both hands....

Just want to give some feedback after one month.
tried around alot and learned alot.
i practised 1-2 hours a day (much more on the weekends).
i can play stuff now i never would have been able to 4 weeks ago.

i also upraded to a roland FP-10.
if you search a digital piano with very nice keys i think in that price range (429EUR) it´s a real bargain.

BUT.... i also tried some other apps.
PGS still is nice and all.
but i must say i tried piano marvel and i learned alot there too.
the staff and such is much easier to read in marvel. i really struggle with it here in PGS.

and then there is flowkeys - my advice - stay away from it personally i think it´s crap.
i find the mix of PGS and marvel is a good way to get started.

maybe some tip for other beginners for stuff that really helped me ALOT ( besides of practise 40 hours a day )

1st i got a ton of books (i.e. Alfreds adult course books, some training stuff like note learning, czerny and schmitt)
in addition to the software it helps me alot cause there is no pressure from the software to play perfect and in time.
feels more relaxed to play some songs that way just to get used to it.

one other thing that really helped me alot are the videos from PianoTV

Allysia is a wonderful person and really has some great tutorials and educational videos.
learned alot from it.

and then there is udemy.
i got some courses there on a sale very cheap. also can be interesting for some ppl.

i know all that can´t replace a teacher but it´s a start.

I wish you could see somewhere what you need to unlock new lessons?
