Help reading notes from Sheet

Hello everyone

I've got a sheet of music from my son's school. Although I'm midway through the Basecamp lessons I need a little help with two very basic questions:

I don't know what to do with the noted hand positions (F, d, B, C, F/A)? Which finger do these letters refer to?

Does the position of the b in the violin key mean that I play b-flat instead of b?
