Rookie Bootcamp Lesson 42: Falling Slowly (How?)

Post by Rick » Mon May 22, 2017 1:21 pm

Hi,

I've been using playground sessions for a few weeks and although I love the lessons, I'm finding some a a bit confusing because the explanations seem to be missing. I'm struggling particularly Lesson 42: Falling Slowly. The lesson involves moving from C (finger 1) to E (Finger 1) occurring on the next bar and then later it goes back again (E on finger 1 to C on finger 1). All of these are whole notes.

I'm confused because the C and the E are both whole notes with no rests between them and both are to be played with finger 1. Am I supposed to quickly leap to the E above the C with my thumb when the next bar starts? Or am I supposed to practice some kind of pivoting/finger changing so that my finger is resting over E ready to play the note as soon as the C ends?

Thanks

I put a video on Facebook for the Playground Sessions Community for this one. It was challenging.

You have to use your Index finger to guide your thumb to the right note when moving from C to E so you can quickly move it. Put the index finger over the F key while the thumb is playing the C so the thumb will naturally fall on the E when that position change is necessary.

Then on the way back down, you put your ring finger on that same F Key while the thumb is on the E. This isn't as easy as following the index finger, but your "relaxed hand" should put the thumb right over the C if you keep the ring finger still when you move from the E to the C.

I don't know if facebook will allow you to see the video. But I did share it public.

Play it at the slow tempo and good luck!
