begineers question - my playground in mac

Hello
This might sound silly but my daughter spent few mins with the very first boot camp sone the superman song and we were hoping that playground sessionw ill show which notes shes getting right etc. but all the controls on the panel are grayed
Why are we not able to use those controls like tracking plays etc.,
