Accidentals

Hi.
Im a little confused about an accidental rule.
I am doing the course on reading music and have got to the accidentals lesson. One of the rules is that if an accidental is found in a measure then any other occurence of that note in that measure is also sharp/flat.
UNLESS it is in another octave
In exercises 7 and 15 there is an accidental then the same note one octave.above. this note has a natural sign.
Surely this natural is not needed as the note is not sharp/flat anyway being in the next octave.
Hope you can explain
Thank you

That's a courtesy accidental.

Yes, the rule technically is that accidentals don't carry through octaves in the same measure - however, it's common to put a courtesy natural as a reminder, since this is one of the most debated and confusing topics of music engraving.

It's similar to having a bunch of accidentals in one measure, then the next measure there's a natural sign to remind you that it's natural. Just a courtesy.

Best,
Andrew

I'm just starting the Rookie Accidentals lesson and I noticed that there are no finger position numbers on the staff anymore. Is this intentional? I looked around, but I didn't see an option to turn them back on. I also noticed that there are finger position numbers in upcoming lessons.

I see. This definitely appears to be intentional. I wouldn't worry too much about exact fingerings for accidentals in this lesson.

Good to know. I finished the lesson btw. I should've watched the first video over and over to find the proper finger positions. What can I say, I'm new to this.
