Hi,
I have a question regarding BPM.
In lesson 8 with 4/2 and 74 BPM, does it mean each half note take a beat?
Thank you.

That's correct. In 4/2, the half notes take the beat.

Was the counting of beats and which notes covered in a boot camp lesson? A lot of folks seem to have trouble with the 4/2 timing. The simple explanation is the top number signifies how many beats in a measure and the bottom number which kind of note gets the beat. A 2 on the bottom is the half note. A 1 would be a whole note. The most common is a 4 which is the quarter note. And so on.
I very well could have forgotten where this was covered since I already knew and the lesson would have been quick, painless, and not so memorable.

Yup. We have a lesson that breaks this all down. We'll likely be adding more to allow you guys to get a deeper understanding of how time signatures work.
