Roland LX708 to iPad connection

I have not been able to connect my iPad to my Roland LX708 digital piano so that the Playground Sessions app can "see" what I'm playing on the Roland keyboard. I have connected my iPad to the piano using a USB-A to B cable and an Apple Lightning to USB-A connector. Does anyone have experience/advice on this set-up?
