Rookie Note Duration Lesson 1

Post by Baron » Sun Mar 12, 2017 5:45 pm

On quarter notes, the vertical tempo bar speeds up between measures and then slows back down once it gets to the notes. This makes it really hard to keep time.

If you listen without looking at the tempo bar, you'll hear that the tempo is constant. The trouble is trying to keep the tempo bar moving across the notation smoothly while also crossing the measure demarcation points, which take up visible space without actually taking up time. So to cross the measure boundaries the bar speeds up visibly to reach the next note in time. The alternative would be to crowd the notes together across the measure boundaries. That might be something they could code as an option for the user to choose. The notation would either be messy with the tempo bar moving at a consistent rate, or the notation would be clean with the tempo bar having to hurry across the wide spaces as it does now.
