Hi,

Are there plans for an app for Android? Is it under construction?

Yes!

We are currently working on it, and hopefully will have it ready in the next couple of months.

Still working out some of the kinks. We're close though.

The iPad version needs an update. Why not spend more time there?

I'm also very excited about the Android app and am watching for it. Thanks very much to the development team. Well be plenty gracious with you in the beta stages ;)

What type of cord will be required to connect midi to tablet?

Thanks in advance!!

At a minimum you need an OTG cable.

I've used my Android tablet with my MX-49 MIDI keyboard with an OTG cable with my Android tablet. OTG is short for "On The Go" and provides a traditional USB port for your USB MIDI cable to plug into. Next, Android hasn't usually had a proper MIDI layer (or stack) as part of the operating system, unlike iOS devices. Getting Android tablets and phones working with MIDI devices is more hit and miss. I ended up using a Roland UM-1 USB-to-MIDI cable because my MX-49 is not "Class Compliant." Class Compliant is a standard MIDI over USB implementation that Yamaha has been slow to incorporate. A Roland UM-1 USB-to-MIDI cable is only effective if your keyboard has the old 5 pin DIN MIDI ports.

There aren't any guarantees that if you have the OTG cable that your MIDI keyboard and Android device will communicate. But it's where to start.

Thanks for all that information. I'll buy one as soon as the Playground Sessions app is released and hope for the best!

Counting down the days!! I'd even test out the pre-beta (alpha?) now and provide feedback if one of the dev's would be kind enough to share :)
