Piano question: Casio PX160 vs Yamaha P45

Post by jameslugo » Sun Apr 12, 2020 7:40 pm

Looking at the 2 keyboards on the site. Because I can't try them side by side was just wondering what people's thoughts and experiences were.

How do they feel side by side? Honestly I've always loved the feel of Yamaha and the Casios seemed more processed sounding and feeling but again I haven't tried either. I don't want anything with to heavy an action, I teach voice and play piano all day on a Studiologic 88 controller that I love the feel. I used a Korg stage piano in the 2000s but started getting arthritis.

Piano sounds? Electric piano sounds?

Thoughts?

Thanks
James

You can use the StudioLogic controller with Playground Sessions. It should be an excellent experience even. The P45 and PX160 are both entry level instruments and the StudioLogic 88 should be equal to and perhaps better for the feel of the action.

From https://www.pianodreamers.com/casio-pri ... 60-review/

Compared to the Casio keyboard, the P45 lacks an onboard MIDI recorder and Split Mode.
Moreover, the piano has only 64 notes of polyphony and 10 built-in sounds compared to the 128 notes of polyphony and 18 built-in sounds on the PX-160.
From the sound perspective, the PX-160 sounds slightly richer and brighter than the P45, partly because of the its more powerful speakers and arguably better samples.

I was in a similar situation a few years ago. Went with the Casio PX-160. It was bundled with the full stand and 3 pedals at Costco. With a free extended warranty too.
I really love the Casio. To me it sounds wonderfull. I particularly appreciate that you can split the 88keys in two 44 for teaching my kids. (Split Mode)

A big drawback that is a negative for me is that the keys are kind of loud. Also, even if the P45 has a lower polyphony, the samples are more pleasing to some ears.

My honest opinion would be to go with the PX160 or the Roland FP10. Comparable price points, but just better action overall than the P45.

I currently own the P45 and have used it many times. It's solid, but the PX160 and especially the Roland FP10 top it in my opinion!

This guide here shows all three of these keyboards on it so that's pretty cool haha!

You could compare yamaha to casio in general or read individual reviews.
I personally like casio digital pianos. I would pick the PX160 in this case.

First of all, you can compare Yamaha P25 with Casio, and then you will be able to decide which is best. But in my case, I will definitely use Yamaha P25 because, for me, Yamaha is the best brand :)

In casio 160 and Yamaha P45 I would go for Casio PX160 because of its amazing keys. But it's good for an intermediate pianist. If you are a beginner then you should go for P45.

You can compare Roland RD-2000 and Yamaha YDP 184 by yourself after reading detailed reviews. But if you compare by brands then Yamaha is way beyond to any other brand. So choose wisely that best suits you. I hope it helped. Jasen.
